Myconeos wins £21k Innovate UK Grant Award

Myconeos wins £21k Innovate UK Grant for the “Global Cooperation Feasibility Studies Competition”

January 2022

The project will investigate the opportunity of developing new fungal strains for the European market initially targeting the Italian mould ripened cheese market. Myconeos has developed ground breaking technology to naturally breed new fungal strains. We have applied the technology to breed the first new penicillium roqueforti strains in the market for blue cheese application in forty years. Our new commercial strains provide desired sensory attributes to attract new consumers into the category and address sensory profiles challenges with the established strains for example bitterness or a chalky mouthfeel and an intense blue cheese.

“The project will involve engaging with key commercial partners in the European and Italian markets, allowing us to screen the current library of strains Myconeos have developed for the key attributes enabling Myconeos to create valuable commercial partnerships that will allow the company to rapidly expand our global footprint.” says Jacek Obuchowicz the Chief Executive Officer of Myconeos.

Myconeos has been developing our groundbreaking Penicillium strain breeding technology over the last 2 years and are just about to launch a range of novel P. roqueforti strains into the cheese industry in the UK.
